The Ritual of Drinking Tea
“May these blends support and nourish individuals in their wellness. May each sip invite a moment of connection to their heart.”
The ritual of drinking tea is a time-honored tradition throughout cultures. It is easy to view tea as a simple beverage; I see it as an experience. Through the combination of ritual and senses, tea offers a moment of pause, a moment to take a breath and connect with ourselves or others. Through the action of paying attention, this is a moment of tuning in and taking care of our needs in the moment.
I have met many tea lovers since the inception of LUMI herbal teas. This is a connection I have grown to value. The passion individuals have as they share about their favorite tea blend is a connection in itself. The beauty is that, somehow, the leaves find their way to us. There is a pause as we stand in the store, go online, or open our cabinet. At that moment, we likely take a breath, consider what would feel right for us, and reach for the blend. This is an act of listening to the needs of our hearts, which is how I look at LUMI herbal blends.
To brew a cup of tea, we interact with the leaves. We recognize the herbs and add a scoop to a pot or infuser. We pour the warm water over the leaves and watch the leaves dance and swim together in the water. As it infuses, it transforms. This is a reminder that transformation is possible and always requires time, awareness, and a little heat.
We feel the warmth and a little more grounded as we pour the transformed leaves into our favorite cup. Hearing the blend fill the cup, seeing the steam, and, let’s not forget the aroma, these pleasures bring us into the moment.
We then raise our favorite cup and get closer to the aroma; this moment lands and is savored. As we take our first sip, we embrace the flavors. The variety can be vast, but there could be earthiness, floral, sweet, bitter, or a combination that envelopes our senses. The taste lingers, and we settle into our surroundings. We may be in quiet reflection or engaged in conversation, but connection and introspection somehow arrive.
As we finish our cup of tea, a sense of grounded contentment lands. It is a moment when we can take a more relaxed breath and possibly release our grip on the day more. It is a moment with yourself and tending to your needs. It is a moment of peace; everything about it nourishes our body, mind, and heart. It sometimes feels like a sweet embrace, somehow a little extra cared for.
Offering ourselves glimpses of peace and connection amidst the chaos of our days is an experience worthy of repetition. It seems simple, yet so complex at the same time. The incorporation of our senses brings the ritual to life. This transformation, connection, awareness, and introspection are honored and possibly invited into other areas of our lives.
The saying above is spoken as LUMI blends are being created. As the creator, these moments of ritual and pause with herbs can be part of our path to wellness and a connection to our hearts. These moments become collections of remembered goodness. LUMI means light, and the intention is for those who consume my blends to find a closer connection to their heart center. This pause is a sweet embrace, an offering to ourselves to feel the nourishment of the mind, body, and heart in the moment.
